STEP 3: YOU WILL BE SENT PAYMENT INFO AND JOIN LEAGUE GROUP CHAT

Welcome to the Hot Dish Sports Pickleball League! We wanted to put together all of the information about the league in an easy-access location. There will also be pictures from the league each week on here, and there are comments below each blog. Everyone is welcome to post anything they like on the blog posts! The scheduled games for each week will be posted once everyone RSVP's ON THE LEAGUE SITE, which you can access from the button at the top of this page.

BELOW ARE SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I RSVP IF I WILL BE THERE OR NOT?

RSVP’ing is most important step to ensure you are put into the schedule each week in advance. Once you are fully registered you will then have access to RSVP through Global Pickleball Network. Log in to your account and RSVP. Just select “YES” or “NO" for each week. If your RSVP changes within 24 hours of the event or less, please text the league manager to confirm the schedule has been adjusted.

RSVP to each event. REMINDER: Be sure to click SAVE button after selecting “Yes” or “No”. Most people RSVP to all 20+ weeks in advance (start of the season) and then just update it from yes to no, if something changes. That is the most simple and time-saving method players have found.

WHAT IS A LADDER SYSTEM LEAGUE?

The entire league is a ladder system. This means that each week courts will be assigned based on overall points. As you win games you will move up on the ladder, as you lose games you may move down. By doing this system, in the end, you should be settling into a spot in the league playing against others around your skill level each week. This first week of games will be fully random teams because we do not have any stats yet to determine ladder rankings. But as you win games this week you will go up and down in the ladder for next week and play others around your skill level.

HOW MANY GAMES WILL I GET TO PLAY EACH WEEK?

Each week everyone who is at the league will get a minimum of 3 games in. If we have an odd number, on average people get to play 5-10 games in a night. It depends on how fast your ladder’s games take that night. You will have the full 2 hours.

WHO WILL BE MY DOUBLES PARTNER?

As you can see from the example scorecard image, each week your teammate will be each person near you on the ladder that week (aka closest to you in total points).

HOW DO I MOVE UP AND DOWN IN THE LADDER?

Each week you will earn points based on an ELO ranking system. In short; beat better players gain points, lose games, lose points. This system is the best system for ranking teams by their ability. Each team will start with 1500 points, which will increase as they win and decrease as they lose. The amount of points gained or lost from a match is dependent on the points of the opponent played. This allows teams to reach a stable equilibrium quickly. This is best system to get everyone playing against other players at a similar skill level each week, and as you improve, you can move up the ladder. WHERE ARE THE GAMES?

The games will be held in Maple Grove at Pints and Paddle, a new pickleball facility that opened in the fall of 2023.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Contact Cole for price.

WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO BE AT THE GAMES EACH WEEK?

Every week we will have courts booked for 2 hours. All are welcome to come hang out, eat, and drink for the whole time while watching everyone play. However we know everyone has tight schedules, so there will be times/scorecards will be posted here for each player. Plan on being at the court for 2 hours from 8-10pm on Sunday nights. I would plan on getting to the courts 10 minutes early.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A WEEK?

We want to do our best to make sure everyone gets their chance to earn points on the ladder. So if someone misses a week, we will do our best to squeeze in a few extra games the following week if possible. But the only thing that will be impacted if you miss several weeks of the league is your total points will be less than others, and it will only change who you play on the ladder, but that is why we have the bonus points for beating someone ranked higher than you in a game. It will make it easier to make your way back up the ladder with your skill.

WILL THERE BE PRIZES?

Of course, there will be prizes/awards! But there will be a fun end of the year event with a raffle and fun games to the end of the season. So even if you are not the top player in the league, you can still win.
