Correa Is Gone For Good, What’s Next?

Last off-season Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins shocked the entire baseball world by swiping right on each other. Unfortunately the relationship has ended. Correa has officially signed with the San Francisco Giants for 13 years and $350 million! This is the 4th largest contract in MLB history and the largest for a shortstop.

According to Dan Hayes of the Athletic, the Twins final offer to Correa was ten years $285 Million. You can’t blame Correa for taking a contract worth an additional $65 Million that takes him into his age 41 season. We would all do the same. If we can’t blame Correa, can we blame the Twins ownership and front office for not bringing him back long-term? Yes, 100%. In the past several seasons, we saw several long-term contracts show they are not worth the value (Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Robinson Cano). Only time will tell what will happen with the Giants and Correa.

It seems the fanbase is begging for the Twins to replace not only Correa’s money, but also fill a hole at SS. Dansby Swanson could be the ticket, but only time will tell, and I think it is more likely that the Twins make more Bullpen aditions rather than spending big $$ on a SS. They also just recently got Kyle Farmer from the Reds this offseason, and he is a solid utility option as well as starting role at shortstop until Royce Lewis is ready to take on the duties himself once healthy.

Only time will tell…
